Review: The Alba DVD65 Multi Region slimline DVD player is a little diamond, it's compatable with every disc I have ever put in it. A lot of which I didnt expect it to play. It even plays NTSC discs and converts the output to PAL in perfect colour(!!), which if you have an old TV that doesn't handle NTSC (like mine) is a god send. I have looked at 3 other players in the £30 price range that friends have purchased recently (including the 'proline' from Comet and the 'technica' from Tesco), and this one wipes the floor with all three in most every respect. Any little moans you could come up with about this player pale when it's compared to the alternatives in the same price range.I wrote a review on this player, after I'd had it for a few days scoring it 3/5, mostly because when you zoom the "zoom x-" display remains on screen. "Not with a square TV!" I said. Appologies to Alba, in 'set up' if you change the picture setting to widescreen, only smallest of borders remain on screen. In some cases (movies in cini scope) this does mean the picture looks a little squashed. But thats easily bearable. small moans included no standby button on the remote, and a few more buttons on the machine it's self would have been nice. But still buy this one! |
