Review: Dismiss all the negative press you hear about the iPod Mini, go and buy one today - you won't be disapointed. Having owned a 20gb 3rd gen iPod, I recently sold it on ebay in favour of an iPod mini. Firstly the mini's biggest plus point is size, having lugged the 20gb unit around for some time, you discover the benifits of the mini!! Its far, far lighter, more scratch resistant, better looking and pocketable than it's bigger brother. Secondly, who the hell needs 5000 songs in your pocket, if like me you probably have near 3000 songs in iTunes, but only about 500 to a 1000 firm favourites - so why the need to carry 5000? Besides, when you buy an typical album you only get 5 to 6 songs that are worth ripping, the rest are dross - So be selective, don't waste time filling both your hard drive and iPod with crap!! Thirdly, all the negitive press about the mini's battery life, some people claim to only manage four to five hours battery life - Rubbish, to test this out I left my mini on all night, nine hours later its still going. Okay to be fair I haven't touched any buttons or used the back light - BUT IT'S STILL GOING !!!! Personally I happy with the physical size of the unit, I doubt I ever wish to carry more than a 1000 songs, I have to say I find the build quality and sound to be fantastic. It's both mac and windows compatable from the box i.e. You get both a firewire & USB 2 cable bundled in the box from new. Okay the only downside to the mini if I'm honest is the standard headphones, I tried Apple in-ear headphone at £34.00 but found they kept on falling out. So far the best headphones I have come across are either the Sony MDR-EX71 (available in mug me now white) or the Sennheiser MX500's. In short, I'm very impressed with Apple's latest offering!! |
