Review: The new 2nd generationApple iPod Mini 4GB MP3 player improves greatly upon its predecessor. The changes are not really cosmetic, apart form a slightly different metallic tone (practically identical to the original) and coloured click wheel icons to match the colour of the player. The main differeneces are internal ones. The battery life IS greatly improved. Now th emini can last up to 18 hours, some times even 21 compaed to the previous models feeble 8 hour battery life. The batery life was the only reservation I had on getting a mini ipod. Now that apple have fixed this, I see no hesitation in buying one and neither should you. There is one small problem which is NOT unique to the mini ipod. Hard drive based mp3 players contain lithium ion batteries which, after a set number of recharges (about 500) will die. When this happens you'll ahve three choices: Buy a new Ipod, which will probably be extremely cheap when your abttery does die.. Send t apple to replace abttery, not cheap.. Buy a battery and replace it for yourself, there are many guides on how to do this throughout the internet. This small problem, which is common with mp3's is the only thing which stops me giving the mini Ipod full marks. If you are looking for a mp3 which holds lots, but not infinite amounts of music, with style and sophistication, snap up a mini. If you're not to keen on the price tag, get a shuffle which are cheaper. IF 1000 songs is not enough and you want your entire lifetime album collection with you at all times, and can splash out another hundre or so quid, I'd suggest the orginal pod. Happy Listening |
