Review: I had been looking for an mp3 player for a long time, and narrowed my choices to the Sony NW-HD5 and the IPod. I was quite averse to the hype surrounding the IPod, and specially disgusted by how Apple have flogged it to revive their entire product range - "why not buy an IMac to go with your IPod?" (what?!). In fact, I was almost ready to shun it for the sake of being different. But then my sister insisted on getting an mp3 player herself, and so I thought I'd give it a go for her - turns out it's so brilliant, commercial and advertising arrogance becomes irrelevant! I would go as far as to say it's a flawless bit of machinery...Too many people have been derogatory about the sound from this bit of hi-techjiggery heaven, but I hear it loud and clear (perhaps I'm easily impressed, but I like to be able to use my ears for hearing after I switch the IPod off). Of course, I still don't know what the Sony is like, but I'd probably put me money on this 'un. The earphones aren't as bad as I expected, the clickwheel is pretty good, on the go playlists, blah, blah, blah...the usual, is great; no drawbacks. Among the smaller things though, I specially like the way it remembers your previous position (i.e. - you play a song, go back to fiddle with backlight or something, and then go back into artist, album, song, and it remembers where you were, instead of starting at 'A' again). Only time will tell how the infamous Apple battery fares, and in the meantime, I shall take the plunge and purchase a 20GB Photo IPod! P.S. Amazon delivery was fine, as always. |
