Review: Apple have gained a repution with the Ipod family, as the best mp3 player on the market. Only three weeks after apple unvailed the Ipod nano, the succesor to the ipod mini, they again suprised everyone at thier keynote speech by announcing the replacement to the "big" Ipod along with the new Imac and itunes 6. And it lives up to the hype.A beautifully clear 2.5 inch (diagonal) sized screen allows you to see your album art and photos like never before. And for the first time on an ipod, video playback is included. The new Ipod is noticably slimmer than it's predecessors.45% slimmer than the origional Ipod. The New Ipod also boasts a battery life of 20 hours on one charge cycle. Videos look increadibly clear on this tiny device.Supported formats include mpeg4 and h.264 which can be converted to from most formats using apple's own quicktime pro (£20) which can encode h.264 and mpeg4 easily, or pspware by nullriver (free) which only converts to mpeg4. The two models that are available are the 30gb and 60gb Ipod and both are available in black and white. This means up to 15,000 songs,25,000 photos or 150 hours of video on the go. With itunes 6 videos are easily transfered to the ipod like sngs.Videos appear both in the videos section in itunes and can be placed into playlists. Also with the includement of video, the itunes music store now has a wide range of music videos and a collection of pixar short films for purchase. All in all, the ipod is a well built gadget.Slim and compact but with a 2.5 inch screen for viewing video and photos on the move.If you are only looking for an mp3 player to hold a small collection get the Ipod nano.If however, you have a large collection of songs or like the idea of video on the go the new ipod is the one for you. |
