Review Summary: iPod Nano...........the hype is true !!!

Review: Having had various mp3/wma players....mostly bought from the far east on ebay, I thought it was time to buy my son something "decent". I had heard stories about iPods.....battery life, fragility etc, but decided that not everything you hear is necessarily correct. I bought a Nano 2gb from Amazon. I didn't open it, but gave it to my son on his birthday last week....his face was a joy to see, but then came the inevitable "can you set it up while I'm in school?" Thanks Son!!
If you're used to installing new software on a PC, then iTunes is no different, just follow the wizard. The instruction manual is not much good, so after a bit of playing I managed to sort out how everything works.
The Nano is a beautiful peace of technology...sleak looks, much sturdier than I expected and yes, if you're worried about scratches, buy a skin..........there's literally thousands out there..5 quid will buy a decent clear one on ebay.
Back to the software.....iTunes will search your pc for music and convert it to the correct format, this won't affect any other music player software ie WM player. It won't however convert protected material..ie downloaded from internet music sites. Just a few hints...if you can "cut_n_paste" on your pc, then you will have no problems..simply select the tracks you want from the iTunes library "cut" them, select the iPod icon and "paste"..simple !!
As mentioned before protected material cannot be imported to iTunes, you will have to burn this material to a CD using WM player and then re-rip into your library. You can copy direct from a CD to iTunes, again using cut and paste, but I found it is easier to rip using WM player onto your pc, then get iTunes to search again.
All in all, I was very impressed with the Nano.....I just hope 2gb is enough (for now)
