Review: I used this book last year when visiting Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, therefore it is difficult to comment on the Kaliningrad guide. Trying to use this book as a solo guide to the capitals was near enough impossible. The maps have little detail and are highly in-accurate and there is not much of a restaurant guide either. However, the book does acknowledge this fact and points you in the direction of suitable accompanyments. Having said that, it contains very useful background information on the cities, including histories. These are often cleverly integrated into wlaking tours around the cities that are very helpful, especially in the maze of streets in the old towns. There are plenty of good ideas for excursions and some good shopping guides. All in all it is a very good book for the independent, non-tour guided traveller. It would have been extremley difficult to get by without, even though it needed a little extra to help it along. Buy! |
