Review: I took a keen interest in the Belinea range following a PC-mag 'editor choice' for Belinea 101570. Because I could not find a decent tech review of the 101715, I checked the spec of every single 17" monitor available and found that this one is more than correct. The opinions of Miss R E Quinn and Rita, suspiciously from the same town, did not convince me, but I finally purchased it.First, the picture of the monitor on Amazon web site is correct, do not believe the picture on Belinea site (it wrongly shows the speakers on the screen instead of on the base). The high resolution 1280x1024 seems a luxury, but it becomes quickly a must! as windows applications tend to have more and more tool boxes and lists in every corner of the screen... The picture is really neat, bright, colorful. The speakers are good & loud enough for Windows sounds and music, but of course you will not deafen the neighbourhood with their power (1W @1kHz-15kHz). I removed my old external speakers and it's fine for me. If I compare the picture quality with a Philips 170B2, it is very similar (I am not a professional). The only minus is when going into lower resolutions. As all TFT monitors have to manage with a fix number of pixels, each has its own way of rendering lower res. The Philips gives a faint blur on most of the pixels (hardly noticeable), but the Belinea seems to adjust periodically some pixels. I mean, it is as if you have a column of slightly fuzzy pixels every, say 20 or 50 pixels. It is not a problem, as the text and pictures are still perfect, but you tend to see a pattern. I actually always stay at 1280x1024, and when PC games use lower res., it is still fine. I can now confirm that Miss R E Quinn and Rita are right, it's a very good investement! |
