Review: Brief Encounter is a masterpiece. To see such a film these days is truly refreshing. Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson under the direction of David Lean perform to perfection. There is no nudity, no bad language, no sex. The English is perfectly spoken. I can watch this film again and again. The scenery is superb and the music helps to make it. This is a very sad film and for Laura there is really no way out. Her husband and children are well played. My congratulations to all involved in making this mammoth masterpiece of entertainment. I taped it from the TV many years again and I am now buying it as it was getting a bit scratchy. Films these days can be good but too much sex, violence and nudity is shown which is so boring they send me to sleep. There is very little that I would spend any money on. Last time I went to the cinema was to see Captain Correlli's Mandolin. Excellent. I stayed awake, as I do with Brief Encounter
