Review: When all is said and done, Brothers in Arms: Road To Hill 30 is a very repetitive Sony PlayStation 2 game which didn't need to be! I bought it because I like the war genre but am fed up with the same old "hide n' shoot" that I hoped this game wouldn't deliver because of the squad control basis. However, the novelty of controlling a squad soon disappears when it becomes obvious early on that A/they do little to alter the outcome of the mission and B/die if you put them anywhere near the enemy! As the object of the game is to get your squad through the game alive then you end up parking them in a far-flung corner whilst undertaking the mission on your own. The missions aren't nearly as varied as those in "Call of Duty" for example and soon become quite repetitive. If there's to be a follow-up then I would like to see the gamer rewarded for using tactics and more variation in missions. I don't think it matters that this is supposed to be an authentic account as ultimately it should make one want to play on to the end,(which I didn't - I abandoned it partway through the last mission), and get the next installment. It's a shame because this could have been a great game... |
