Review: Brothers in Arms: Road To Hill 30 promised so much yet delivered so little. Maybe its the constant mass influx of war games that put me of but I really couldn't get in to it. Everything from the severe linearity and the desperately workman like way of blocking of every path make this game feel as cramped any corridor door shooter- an odd comparison maybe, but this game is just as suffocating. The combat is also weak when compared to the likes of half-life 2 and Riddick. Every 'set piece' is the same, this game basically works like this ALL the time with NO variation, flanking - running - shooting - repeat. The aiming system is also very one dimensional, and the accuracy of the weapons is another bad point, you can be right next to a measly German, have the crosshair on him and some how miss...AUTHENTIC!. One saving grace is that the guns do feel and look authentic but if the combats no fun, what's the point? The tactical aspect of this game is very under developed and basic. essentially Ubi-soft have created a game were tactics don't really come in to play, seeing as there is a marker telling when you have some one suppressed - thus taking away the unpredictability, and need for caution. The whole 'brothers in arms' aspect is also woefully shoddy. This game apparently, has a pulses racing- driving narrative, and one that will really make you see the full horrors of war! but really all it has are a couple of cut scenes with mindless banter, which don't really add to the atmosphere and create a feeling of 'I'll take a bullet up the plug hole for you! The graphics are reasonably well contrived and it has a slick frame rate and good character models. The level design though is uninspiring, although the game does have its own unique graphic style. This game will take about 6 hours to finish on your first play through, but to be honest there are much better games available. You want tactics? purchase Full Spectrum Warrior for a third of the price. You want a FPS? purchase anything- it will probably be more fun and engrossing than this. Very Disappointing. Hype is a bad thing. |
