Review: Burnout 3: Takedown is a great game... it's as simple as that. It's one of the first games I got for the Xbox after keeping my N64 fro a very long time without getting another console (now the DS has come out, I can have that on the move). Burnout is a phenomenal game and Criterion should really be proud of what they have made. Every mode is amazingly well thought out and you can see that the game has been developed by a group of absoloute geniuses. Although, dispite these pluses there are a couple of little nooks: The rubbish american punk pop won't appeal to everyone and was obviously was one of the last things that was put into the game. You can tell this by the fact that it doesn't primarily feature in the menus). Xbox owners will be better off because of the ability to put their own playlist in. Some of the off-road graphics (water, bottoms of mountains) don't look to hot and your car doesn't react well to some of them (this wouldn't usually be a problem but you will be crashing quite alot to start out) The car becomes too speed orientated way too quickly. The best bits of the game are bits that are speicifically focused on crashing rather than speed. If you are less than amazing with the drift function, the later levels aren't even worth playing purely because the cars control like bricks without it. This game is amazing for the first month or two and it's amazing from the word go but some minor and major problems do get in the way... It's definitely the best alternative racer though. |
