Review: This Canon IXUS 55 camera ticks all the boxes: tiny, shirt-pocket sized, beautiful as a piece of jewellery, fast 1-second startup, instant 'snap' time after pre-focus, decent wide-angle 35mm), huge bright screen, full TV-qual 640 x 480 30 fps video up to limit of SD card, good battery life, wonderful, logical ergonomics, and with a fast Sandisk SD card, everything happens so FAST. Best of all - crisp and sharp images. Here's a tip though: do some careful tests, and you'll find (as with most of these tiny cams) that 3mpx Normal quality (2136 shots perGb) gives just as good a picture as 5Mpx Superfine quality (391 shots per Gb). Both give crisp sharp pictures with no noticeably compression artifacts even up to A4 size. Chances are, you'll never do bigger than 7" x 5" prints. Trust me: the 'advantage' of 5Mpx and the Superfine quality just cannot be seen. |
