Review: As a previous owner of the IXUS 500, I was umming and ahhing between the Canon Ixus 50 digital camera and 700, due to the theft of my old camera! DOH!! Plumping for the 50 after much deliberation and checking outthe sizes of both cameras, I have to say, I am most impressed. As other people have said, the biggest enhancement for me has been the ability to use the zoom whilst videoing as this was always an annoyance on the 500. I have noticed that the flash is not quite as powerful as it was on the 500 (being able to illuminate a band on stage from 15-20 rows back!), but the overall size reduction more than makes up for it. Photos are just as crisp as they were on my 500, and the lag time is noticably less than the 500. Personally, I am a little biased as I would only ever really buy a canon camera (own an SLR and digital) unless someone came out with a spectacular offering, but if you're after unsurpassable style and fantastic performance, this a crazy buy. (I have just noticed that the 700 is 20 pounds cheaper though!!) Only one tiny down side is the crappy little 16mb card that you get in the box (I do wish they'd sort this out). Without doubt invest in a bigger card. |
