Review: This Canon PowerShot A610 is my first digital camera (although I have borrowed an Olympus and Kodak before) and I was attracted to Canon because I have a Canon analogue SLR. I have only had it for a weekend now but so far am really impressed. I wanted a compact, fast yet flexible camera and it scores well on all of these. It is small enough to easily carry around although not a pocket camera. With the 4AA batteries it has a solid feel which I think makes for less camera shake. The start-up is fast at about 1 second and once focused, which depending on light, scene etc. is quick (less than 0.5s) the photo is captured almost instantly. As for flexiblity it has the usual point and shoot modes, plus creative modes (portrait, landscape etc.) as well as manual modes. These along with the exposure, focusing, white balance controls give huge scope for creative photography. I hope to try all these, but if you really want to just point and shoot it is probably too much flexiblity. The 4x optical zoom is nice, just to allow you to be less intrusive, particularly for people shots. The other feature I really like, but hadn't really thought about is the flip out lcd screen which allows you to get some unusual angles. I like this Canon PowerShot A610! |
