Review: I bought the Canon A610 just before Christmas. I was due to travel to India and I wanted to make sure that I could return with the best possible photos. After a lot of research, I decided on the A510, but i was surprised to find the A610 on Amazon for only a little more than the camera I had been after. So, because it seemed to offer more features and the newer and faster image processing chip, I opted to go for the more expensive bigger brother, the A610. I was expecting good things from the camera, having read a lot of reviews, but I am so amazed by the quality of the photos I've been able to get with it in the last two months of playing around. Everybody who has seen my India photos has been very impressed with it - one person was more interested in asking qustions about the camera than the actual trip! The fold out screen is very handy for taking photos of yourself or something at an awkard angle, and it CAN be flipped around into a normal position so the camera can be handled ust like any other camera. If you buy this camera, you will need a big memory card as the photo quality on superfine mode are beautiful, but they can take up as much space as 3MB each. Overall, this is a great camera for people like myself, who are just starting out in photography, as the Automatic mode makes taking a phot as easy as point and shoot. Then, when you become a bit more ambitious, there are a number of semi-automatic modes which let you manually adjust either the shutter speed or the aperture and the camera will adjust the settings you leave alone to maintain the best possible exposure. Being able to separate each function like this, and have the camera take care of everything else, is a great way to learn about each aspect of photograpy in isolation. So when you think you understand what effect you will get when you apply the vairous settings, you can then go into the full manual mode which unlocks all the camera's settings to the user, meaing you have a lot more control over how your image will turn out. An abolutely superb camera and a joy to use. |
