Review: Take a Canon G3 remove some of the more advanced functions, leave in all the good bits, shrink it down, give it AA batteries and you've got the Canon PowerShot A80 digital camera. A nice, easy to use camera which still allows full manual control and does not hinder your artistic ambitions. I haven't been able to fault the camera in any way yet althogh the view finder could be bigger / brighter but that is a critsm which applies to virtually all digital cameras, big and small. Image quality is very high, f# of lens is sufficient - you pay for the smaller dimensions compared to a G3. The flip out / over LCD is clear and bright and the adjustability makes it very easy to use the camera in unusual positions- overhead or close to ground, provides protection when stored and perserves battery power when not in use i.e. flipped inward which is the usual way I keep it. I bought the A80 for my wife but also have a G3 and I have not been able to see major differences between the quality of the shots from both cameras. |
