Review: For the average lazy photographer the Canon Powershot A300 digital camera takes excellent quality photographs with a minimum of effort. It's true you need rechargeable batteries and a better memory card but these are often necessary purchases with similar cameras. For the price the photo quality is superb. The battery life with NMih rechargable batteries is good even when using the LCD monitor. It's fairly simple to use (especially when on auto)and still has the ability for you to choose settings manually. The software lets you lighten up any dark prints and change the colour balance and contrast to good effect. The macro option works fine. I'm not entirely convinced by the digital zoom, though for the price and the amount of times I'd have used an optical zoom I think the lack of optical zoom is a fair trade off, besides it also means there's less to go wrong. I think the lens must be pretty good quality judging by the amount of detail it picks up. I'm very happy with it and think it's a very good buy.
