Review: This Canon Powershot A70 is a simply superb digital camera. At the current price of £245 including a 64Mb card it's a steal. Whatever the features of a camera, most users surely want the kit to produce excellent pictures and be simple to use. The A70 is beyond excellent for both. Picture quality in the top resolution is first rate and the metering system compensates automatically for everything I've so far managed to throw at it. My view is that the A70's typical picture quality exceeds that of most 4 megapixel cameras - certainly for the casual user. For the first time user, there is a comprehensive printed manual - a real advantage over CD based sources - and clear, easily manipulated controls on the camera itself. The latter a real boon for large-pawed males like me! Control layouts and menus are simple and logical. For the 'hobby' photographer, there are more features than you can use in an average month. In brief, this is a very acceptable replacement for a 35mm SLR. All the usual features can be adjusted (full manual mode in addition to shutter and aperture priority) and the camera can be set to work as if it were an SLR with motor drive. When flash is inhibited, more than 2 frames per second are taken, meaning that you can easily get the shot you want, including fast moving subjects. No need to worry about digital camera shutter lag! I can think of no downside to this camera at all. Buy one now! |
