Review: I recently purchased the Canon A70 (the second digital camera I've owned) to assist me on a digital media course I'm taking and have found it has become indispensible. When you consider the price band it's pitched at it's an absolute bargain, packed with features. I've still a lot to learn about photography, but the fact that it combines fully automatic picture taking and also allows you to have control over aperture, shutter speed, flash strength, white balance (I could go on) not only means that the learning process is made considerably easier but that the more experienced user can get a great deal out of it. Another feature which for me was a great selling point was the 3X optical as well as digita zoom. The quality is so much better with optical as you don't get the graininess you get with just digital. Also the video capture, with sound, can make all the difference, it adds an extra sonic depth (obvious I know) to the playback, not only that but it records upto 3mins; marvellous! A great example of this was on a recent project I undertook to promote the cycle tracks of my home town. Having video capabilities was great but combining it with sound created a more realistic feel and atmostphere to the finished piece. I felt the playback, whilst obviously secondary to actual experience, effectively captured the aspects of the moment that appealed to me and hopefully the viewer. Finally, the software and documentation with the camera is excellent, it is thorough and concise. You may find yourself jumping back and forth in the camera guide but it's laid out in such a way that this is made very easy. As you may have gathered I'm pretty satisfied with this product and I dare say anybody at my photographic level would be. |
