Review Summary: Excellent camera with great functionality

Review: I have used various models of Fuji Finepix over the last few years and have loved every one of them, so the choice to jump to a Canon camera was a tricky one. However I am happy to report that I received my Canon Powershot A95 digital camera a few days ago and am absolutely impressed.

The camera is a great size and weight. It feels solid and robust, but is comfortable to hold and not too big to put in your inside pocket. The numerous buttons are initially a little overwhelming, but you quicky find that they are really well placed and very useful. The zoom is especially cool, being based on a rotating switch around the shutter button.

Picture quality is superb. The 5 mega-pixels are all they should be, and the pictures are sharp and well defined. Most importantly: colour is excellent - one of the reasons why I have always kept with the Finepix is because they had far superior colours to most of the other digital cameras available. The colours produced by the A95 are definitely comparible, and although not so vibrant, probably more realistic.

So, plenty of upsides. Now the down sides:
1) The interface is not as intuitive as the Finepix, but once you get used to it it is reasonably quick to navigate. Still not as good as Fuji's
2) The biggest downside of this camera is the slow focus speed. It sometimes takes up to 2 seconds to get a good focus and pulls in and out of focus before getting it right. This makes it really hard to catch fast moving animals, people or objects. Squirrels in Regents Park were tricky, even though they gave me plenty of chances!

Overall, no regrets in getting this camera. There's so much to expore and the quality never lets it down. But if I'm to stick with Canon into the future, I want to see better autofocus! :-)
