Review: If you're a professional photographer, if you demand the best, if you want to impress friends, then the Canon Powershot S70 is for you! if you are none of the above then guess what the s70 is still for you! the thing is i am all of the above( except maybe the last point) and this camera still blows me away.I come from a film background and it is easy to be dismissive of digital but the engineering and construction in the s70 is really outstanding,in particular, the way that this camera crosses over all the attributes of a fully functional SLR with the simplicity of a compact, is fantastic.With mobile phones being so adaptive nowadays to how they look and feel, i was stunned to find out that i could record "cheese" and this could be played back as a sound for the s70's self-timer mode-wow!.Whateeeever! you say, but my first test of picture quality was to use canon's iP1000 inkjetprinter to print off some early morning shots around the garden (remember this is not really a photoprinter)and the results were amazing.The camera was set at highest settings and in that instance i could of printed a whopping 17x11 print but choose a 6x4 300dpi(most people's norm) and the holy grail came to me........the picture looked like when i had took it. It's early day's with this camera, but i think it seems that this really could be the camera that the photographer in all of us could use to get that shot. |
