Review: I received my Creative Zen Micro 5GB MP3 player today after two weeks of great anticipation, but it's been worth every second and every penny. Having bought a Micro to replace my Zen Xtra 60Gb and recently help a friend setup a new iPod Mini - I can fairly say that this unit comes out on top. Creative now seem to have sorted out the asthetics of their players as I feel Micro's are better looking than iPod Mini's. The navigation takes a little getting used to, however within an hour it becomes effortless. The on-screen navigation is likewise effecient and stylish. The player is robust - like the bundled accessories (leads, battery, beltclip, stand and bag). Sound quality is of a high standard which has long been an advantage of Creative's hardware over Apple's. A spare battery is most useful and the advertised 12hours is fairly accurate. The FM radio is a neat touch with decent reception and the ability to record is handy when you hear new/rare songs on the radio. The latest edition of Creative MediaSource has also improved the one major issue I had with the previous version - that albums weren't played in track order without creating a dedicated playlist. Improvements also include more advanced ID tags and the option of burning CDs. I had a slight fault with my Zen Xtra 60GB however I'd like to big-up Creative's technical support who are extremely effecient and friendly - so make sure you register your Micro to take advantage of this service if required. The only disadvantages of this unit is that the headphones are a little poor (isn't that always the case though?) and that 5GB might not fit all of your collection - like me, you'll have to make do with only 1,500 at a time! In conclusion - if you're wanting a simple, solid, and stylish player packed with features - be unique and get the best micro-jukebox on the market! |
