Review: Just a Doctor Who spin off. Reminds me a lot of the new Doctor Who, which is too contemporary for my liking. But crazy enough, I think this is a tiny bit better than the new series style. You see Sylvester (the last Doctor in the 1980's) "signing off" his role as the Doctor, and then you get Paul McGann who does a great job in this movie. Great actor, wrong film! I find his personality more appealing (I had such an affinity with him) than the current Doctor in 2005 Christopher Eccleston (even though he is ok.) I find the reasoning of the BBC rather weird -- Why give Paul only one film as the Doctor (who I thought was quite good -- he looks so much like a "Doctor") but then 9 years later give the role of Doctor Christopher! The wonder the new series doesn't get me in, because Paul wasn't a doctor long enough. It has it's moments, but the storyline has been tampered with too much for it to be authentic Doctor Who. Eg - Tardis on the inside, that weird scene at the start -- looks more like the X Files! And the eye of harmony... the way it looks... The master doesn't look good either in it. |
