Review: This Dyson DC04 silver yellow is the most expensive vacuum cleaner we have ever bought, but also the worst. We curse it every day, and would certainly never buy any Dyson product again. The main problems are design, usability, durability and practicality. Even when the cleaner was new, I found that it was very heavy and also not very stable. The slightest touch would make it topple over. It is extremely noisy. The attachments do not stow properly and are forever falling off. The fact that you can see into the dust stowage area is fine when the machine is brand new, but forever after that it makes it ugly. The vacuum pipe is unwieldy because it is rigid and because of the width of the handle, from which the pipe is formed. Other cleaners, even the cheapest ones, have retractable cord stowage, and even if this breaks after a while, at least you have it while it lasts. With this one the cable is forever untidy. Emptying the dust box is always a dirty and unpleasant task. This was when it was new. Shortly afterwards, things started going wrong. The narrow brush attachment snapped in two. The spring on the pipe closure end broke and the pipe connecting the motor to the pipe fell split at one end and fell off at the other. Now, the thing won't even suck at all when in 'hard floor' mode. I honestly believe that this Dyson thing is just another case of 'Emperor's new clothes'. It's maketing and nothing else. |
