Review: I chose this Ellion DVR-900 multi-region capable DVD recorder because, at the time, it seemed to have good reviews and at a price I could afford. Amazon delivered in their usual super quick fashion and setup wasn't too much of a hassle - it COULD do with a SCART RGB in, but at this price what do you expect? And the s-video gives great quality. However, having run the unit for a few hours making test recordings, I discovered it had a fault with the audio in - it would either fail to record audio, else just record a very distorted signal. After contacting Ellion, I received an email reply within a day (albeit in very bad 'pigeon' English!). From what I understood, it was a known issue with the audio chipset and I should return the unit to Amazon. This I did but decided to buy a Philips DVDR70 instead of receiving a replacement. I have to say the Philips, whilst still having a few reliability issues, is a FAR better machine technically. The picture quality mashes the Ellion into the ground! Plus the Philips has an extra quality mode allowing you to get 2.5hrs of superb video/audio on a disc. If you can afford the extra few quid, forget the Ellion and buy a Phillips. |
