Review: Final Fantasy X-2 Platinum - a face-lift too far. Cutting out characters, nullifying the ability to pick your own name for characters, sweeping away the ability to customise equipment or choose the way your team develops individually, using (in majority) the scenery from FFX... it's hard at first to love anything about this game. Then there is the issue of campness inherent in the dialogue, visuals, themes and general gloss of the game. FFX-2 seems to be aimed at the Pop-Idol generation. Dress-spheres like Barbie Doll accessories - the worst (and plot-wise most crucial) of which is the Singer-Songwriter Dress-sphere... Most of the enemies were encountered in FFX, there is no overkill factor, overdrive or limit breaks and the LeBlanc Syndicate are the worst characters ever invented in a game and are only bearable due to the catchy tune that plays alongside whipping on them. There is nothing mature, mind-involving or even 'manly' about this game... I give it a 2 though because I like the Samurai and Dark Night suits... (as sad as that sounds). Note to SquareEnix: In future, DON'T pander to pop-chart culture... cater for your fans. |
