Review: I would basically agree with all the previous reviewers regarding this Goodmans GBD5 Set Top Box and DAB digital radio - nice combined functionality, good collection of connection combinations possible, easy set-up, But... I do have a slight niggle with this unit: It seems to be necessary to navigate the digital radio aspects of its functionality via your TV screen. Given that the unit has the functionality of a digital radio hifi separate, it would have been nice to be able to treat it like one, i.e. be able to use it properly for radio without turning the TV on. Physically, it has everything required to be able to do this (stereo audio phonos to plug into an amp, a two-line display to help you navigate), but frustratingly, when you'd want the display to be summarising what the on-screen display is showing to help you navigate with the TV off, it mostly displays something banal like, "Welcome to Digital Radio" or something equally meaningless. It's hard to imagine a bunch of people having a design meeting when this thing was being developed, and someone not saying, "Say, what about if they want to listen to a radio station without turning the TV on to find it?" As ever, though -- "It's a shame all the people who know how the world should be run are all too busy driving taxi cabs." |
