Review: Purchased this Goodmans GBD5 combined set top box and DAB radio as I was looking for a new freeview box and as I also listen to the radio quite a bit I thought I'd give it a try. And pleased I did. Setup is dead easy, simply plug it in and switch it on. The box will then find all the TV stations. Pressing the menu button will present you with four graphical icons TV / RADIO / TIMES / SETUP - select one and you'll get a couple more options. Its all very easy to use and well worth looking at. It has a two-line LCD panel on the front of the unit - this displays TV channel name or DAB radio channel info such as song title and additional info about the current broadcast (eg. contact information). When playing DAB through your TV, after a short while a screensaver will kick in - basically, its the current channel name slowly moving around a black background. Round the back you'll find twin SCART sockets and audio RCA left/right OUT sockets. The colours are a bit darker than my old box - but that's not a real problem. Only other downsides are that the interactive text is a bit slow to scroll through and there is only now/next programme info (like nearly all Freeview boxes). A great piece of convergence. |
