Review: My objective was to find a DAB radio on which I could also play CDs. I tried a number of models, including Samsung, JVC, LG (at twice the price!) but didn't even give this Goodmans model a second glance. Call me a hi-fi snob! But having auditioned one of the above models at home for a week, it was destined to be returned, and a friend suggested I take a look at the Goodmans, which he had bought himself. So, I took a deep breath and parted with the cash. And it's a revelation! The sound is superb, everything you would expect from a decent DAB system. It is very easy to set up, and very intuitive to use. The CD player is also very good. And it looks completely gorgeous sitting in my kitchen! I find myself looking at it adoringly, and have to keep reminding myself it's a Goodmans and not one of those other brands that I would normally have been happy to give houseroom to. If I have to level a criticism, it is that the onboard graphic equaliser (Pop, Jazz, Rock, Classical) contributes an audible hiss if listening to speech or classical music. However, leave it in 'Flat' mode and the sound is pure again. And you don't really need the bass boosted when you're listening to Beethoven, do you?! So well done Goodmans, I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a versatile kitchen (or bedroom!) DAB in the sub £100 range, or even at quite substantially more! |
