Review: The HP Laserjet 3020 all in one printer itself works well (at least after three weeks it does!). General purpose print quality and speed is fine. Scanning and copying also good. However, the driver software supplied is a pain in the neck, and judging by the HP user forum comments, there are many with the same complaint. Like many other users, I have problems with my PC's CPU cycles being taken over by part of the driver programme called 'statusclient.exe': after about 30-60 minutes of operation, this means that the PC almost grinds to a standstill. The HP support comments were too generic to be useful. They do indicate in the fine print that if you operate a small network, or run an external harddisk drive via a USB port (I have both), you may have problems. So far the only solution that has worked for me is to remove the offending programme from the startup procedure, and re-boot. Now I can print and copy alright, but if I want to scan I have to reverse the process and re-boot once again. So: good printer, but the software is badly done. |
