Review: Sorry to rain on the parade, but as a Martial arts movie enthusiast, I have to say that this was a huge disappointment. The plot borrows heavily from romeo and juliet in its theme and tone, yet fails. How can you empathise with two male leads who both attempt to rape the object of their affection?! The fight sequences are sparse, and when they do happen lack the speed and grace of Crouching tiger and Hero. The flying daggers namesake weapons are poorly executed CGI, the main set piece is a 'float through the trees' Crouching tiger rip off, and the climactic fight fails to resolve anything, as the film fizzles to an end. The performances fail to imbue the characters with any emotion, and thus fail to make the viewer care about them and their fate. Far from an essential addition to any collection in my opinion. |
