Review: I agree with MOST of what other reviewers have said regarding the Humax PVR9200T set top box, but would like to add my tuppence worth.... 1) I find the picture quality to be not so good. Normally, the picture (on my LCD TV) looks too "saturated" and "fizzy", has faint wavy lines running down, and the EPG looks to have a see through "gauze" over it. There is a button on the remote control called "Source". When I press this (whatever it does) the picture jumps diagonally up to the left about half an inch, BUT the picture instantly stabilizes. The problem is then that everything is no longer centred. I tried a basic Panasonic Freeview box and I do not get the same problem. Other people are very happy with the picture quality. Fair enough. 2) It has a USB socket but you can`t use it to update the software! You have to buy a separate RS 232 lead for that. 3) To get Top Up TV will cost you about £55 extra `cos you have to buy a TUTV card AND a CAM. Why not just have a card slot? That`s all my gripes over. Now plus points. 1) The ability to record two programmes at once AND watch a third (up to a point!) 2) The ability to watch a pre recorded programme while recording another. 3) The advert skip button. Brilliant idea! I set mine to 60 seconds. All of you who say it takes too long to warm up: Just leave it in standby then! Its instantly ready then when you want it. The fact that the EPG takes so long to load from switch off is not the units fault. THE EPG comes over the air and will take some time to populate. It seems as yet NO ONE makes the perfect PVR. I know as I scoured the forums of all the makes and models before deciding to get this one. They ALL seem to have niggles and faults. Hopefully as this technology matures it will get better. In the meantime I personally think that this unit is one of the best on the market at present. |
