Review Summary: It's no "TiVo" but maybe the best there is in the UK?

Review: OK, Sky has apparently just dropped subscription for Sky+ and cable may do likewise, but I'm delighted with my combo of Tiscali (formerly HomeChoice) and the Humax PVR9200T PVR.

The 9200-T does have a clunky interface, as others have noted. Having had TiVo in the US from its inception (2000-01), it's still hard to deal with programming by time slot and not programme. You wind up with a lot of unnecessary recording, but this is more the fault of Freeview and the EPG market in the UK than the Humax itself. Aggravating, but in the end, with hundreds of hours (in mid-quality mode)of capacity, it's not really an issue.

To sum up...why Humax and why the 9200-T? OK, not a flash brand but it's a solid product (they've been in this market for a number of years globally) and with two tuners, PIP, straight-forward interface etc. it has all of the best features. With the capacity on this baby, who really needs to burn DVDs either?

One suggestion to Humax for the upgrade to this, however...they need to add a 32x FF control...the jump from 16x to 64x is much too big a jump for everyday use.

Small complaints - if you're in the market for a PVR (and don't care about Sky or cable), buy this! Oh, and by the way, Tiscali will soon be offering all of the Sky channels, apparently, so why not bag the other two entirely and get Tiscali (no, I am NOT an employee...just a happy customer who has had it with both Sky and Virgin/whore media!)
