Review: This Humax PVR9200T set top box will change the way you watch TV. No more adverts; good storage capacity. Best of all, it has 2 digital tuners so that you can record two programmes at once or record one and watch another - it's surprising how many of the units out there don't have this ability.
Just a few quibbles: First, the EPG takes several minutes to download. Not everyone seems to have this problem (see other reviews), but it can be a bit irritating.
Secondly (and this is a problem with most terrestrial PVRs) whilst you can set a programme to record each week, you have to make manual adjustments in case the programme is moved: it's surprising how often broadcasters muck around with their schedules.
Finally, the most recent software update is only available by a manual download from the Humax website. This requires use of a computer with a COM port (yes, they still exist) and connecting it to the unit (a telephone cable and carefully positioned blue-tac!). A bit odd that they have not made the update more generally available, because the improvements are well worth it. I suspect that is part of the tradeoff with going with a less well known manufacturer. |
