Review: From the moment the Paramount logo fades into a mountain at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark to Indy's ride into the distance at the end of the Last Crusade, these three films are unrelenting cinematic magic. Although both men produced worthier films, arguably this trilogy sees George Lucas and Steven Spielberg at the peak of their box office prowess. The action never sags, the one liners are funny, and the sheer thrill of seeing a film so impeccably realised comes multiplied by three and won't diminish on repeated viewings. All three movies are shown on TV regularly, so the DVD set was always going to require some pretty hefty features to make purchasing it worthwhile. Fans won't be disappointed - the prints are sharp, the sound is beautiful, and the separate special features disc contains hours of extra footage. It's fun to see Tom Selleck's screen test, or the construction of the Temple of Doom's famous mine cart ride. (It turns out they did it with some tin foil and a couple of clay models. Amazing.) One of the best DVD releases ever, this deserves a place in any self respecting movie fan's collection. |
