Review: I bought this Iomega firewire external hard drive to use on my wife's laptop ( Intel based )and apart from being a little too noisy, it worked fine. I brought it home, plugged it into my Athlon based system and since then I've had nothing but problems. Different USB2 cards have failed to solve the problem. I wanted an upgrade for my PC anyway, so I bought an Intel based motherboard and CPU. The problems still remain. I have even carried out a complete fresh install of XP Professional, to ensure it wasn't a legacy driver issue, but still no joy. Iomega's online tech support is fine, but if they can't solve it, you have to ring an overseas number at peak times only. Not exactly what you need, when you're already stressed about a drive full of data you can't access. If you're going to use this drive on an Intel based laptop, I'm sure it'll be fine. If not, I'd give it a wide berth and go with something like the Maxtor Blue Touch drives. |
