Review: For those looking for a freeview set top box to complement a JVC plasma screen, the JVC TU-DB1SK freeview set top box looks attractive. By comparison with the first generation OnDigital boxes it is easy to use and changes channels quickly. As with all digital pictures, the image is superb. Although the handset is styled to match the handsets used by JVC plasma screens, and can be switched to control these TVs, its TV fuctionality is frustratingly limited. For example, you can bring up the TV format window (16:9, etc) but the Cursor and Enter buttons won't work with the TV. A note in the handbook warns you about this, but it is still annoying, as a tiny bit of additional handset programming would have made all the difference. Another problem is the analogue antenna output feed. This really degrades the analogue signal, even for those of us who can see the transmitter out the window! If the box is disconnected from the power supply, there is no through signal. More frustrating is the fact that you can't leave the box on permanently - it locks up after a while and must remain unpowered for an hour before working again. |
