Review: I have owned the JVC XV-S42 DVD player for about 4 weeks now and I can agree with other reports concerning the good picture quality and sleek styling. However, I have reservations concerning the sound quality. When playing normally through a TV you have to have the sound turned up really loud which can result in fuzzy dialogue when there are loud background activities (e.g. music or explosions in the film scene). I have my DVD connected through an extremely high quality Dolby Digital decoder / amplifier and this improves quality greatly. However, I am still not convinced that the balance between the different frequency levels is as good as it should be. I am going to run a comparison test with another unit borrowed from a friend before I decide to swap the unit for a higher spec product. At this price however the JVC XV - S42 is a steal. |
