Review: For the price there is nothing to touch this Lite-on LVW 5006 DVD recorder - the features are exceptional. Recording quality in 1,2 or 3hr modes is good enough to keep and the 4hr is watchable, I wouldn't recommend the 6hr mode as the quality is lower than long play video. I'm not sure why you would want to use the cd audio recording mode but I'm sure someone will find it useful?? I've connected my JVC MiniDV Camcorder through the firewire port without any difficulty. The only downside from a recording point of view is the single rear scart input this is fine unless you have two external sources you want to connect permanently. From a playback point of view the quailty is fine but if possible its worth using the component outputs and progressive scan, the improvement in quality is marked. The final plus is that it is possible using a firmware hack to remove the macrovision protection that prevents you transfering your VHS collection to cd, against the day when you video finally expires as mine did recently. (this machine is branded elsewhere as an ilo and Mr Wizard has written a utility to apply the hacks to the firmware update) |
