Review: I bought this LiteOn LVW-5002B DVD recorder to replace an terrible Goodmans DVD recorder that kept locking up. Out of the box this machine recorded very well, far better than my VHS. However be warned that the six-hour recording mode is absolutely awful, though the four-hour is acceptable. I am not what you would call a video/hi-fi buff so this is an entirely subjective view. I would reccommend this machine as a good VCR replacement or for those who want to give DVD recording a try. I have had the machine for three weeks or so and it has performed very reliably and the timed recordings work well. However as it takes a minute or so to spin up before recording its worth setting your timer to come on a little early to avoid missing the start of a program. Good points are: ease of day to day use, quality of recordings, upgradable firmware and multi-region hack. Also sound quality I found very good compared to my old DVD player. Bad points: TV tuner seems rather poor, not a big problem as I record via a Scart/freeview box. The initial setup is a pain and not intuative. Also it is a bit noisy at times when recording, though at other times it's ok. For the price this unit is well worth a look. |
