Review: I've got 4 stand alone dvd recorders My first was a Panasonic dmr e50 ( the only bright point is its flexi record facility which enables you to set the recording time right down to the last minute, but it doesnt recognise or use dvd/rw's it only uses ram discs which dont play on bog standard players as rerecordable discs) A Goodman x-pro which I have to keep unplugged when not in use to stop it if overheating and freezing up and only records on +r discs (it has record pause which none of my other dvd recorders have so I have hung onto it). - And two Lite-on's the first one I got was a 5005 which is excellent it records on + and - discs and audio discs as well and can even make vcd's its only flaw is that the front av socket is unusable as if you record through it you get a whining noise (probably poor screening of the wiring, and this is a problem others have reported at the forums,it also doesnt have svhs in socket, the fan is a bit noisy too,but if you stick to using the scart in at the back this is a very good machine, - My latest dvd recorder is the older Lite-on 5002B. This is a good machine too, but be warned it isnt an "Allwrite" recorder like the later models it only writes to +r discs which is a bit of a bummer when you've just bought 500 - r discs like I had done the other week not realising the limitations of this model (Amazon cannily dont shout about it) This said I still like this model it also has 3 hour record facility that the later 5005 doesnt have which is useful once you have bought a stock of +r discs like I have had to do.
