Review: Someone walked off with my MP3 / FM radio combo recently... I thought I'd give DAB a try. Possibly a mistake? Positive points: 1) Excellent sound - but FM on good headphones in a good reception area can come a close second. 2) Much better reception in town on a bike [Manchester] 3) Better selection of stations [BBC World Service in the daytime; 5 Live, etc] 4) Better navigation [though it takes a little bit of time to start up and a little time to switch off - a bit like a computer] Negative points 1) The headphones that came with it are poor - a very thin, disappointing sound - unusable 2) The headphone socket seems in the wrong place somehow. When I slot the player in a mini-disc pouch whilst travelling, I either have to place it upside down or back to front 3) But much, much, much greater than all these points - the running costs!! 10 hours on 2 AA batteries. That makes an average running cost of 10p an hour. I think it should be possible to find a cheaper, more practicable FM radio with substantially lower running costs. These costs progressively mount (especially if you are a heavy radio listener, such as myself). Happy listening - whatever you choose! |
