Review: Having seen Monsieur Hulot's Holiday a few times years ago, at least once in connection with French A Level, I did wonder whether the memories would prove better than the reality. However, I was not disappointed. Of course viewing it now is to be transported even further from present day holidays. No understanding of French is really required to appreciate this film (particularly since there are few audible words in any language) It's a very gentle slapstick which appeals to those who don't usually enjoy the genre, and with much delicate observation. |
