Review: Old Speckled Hen is a beautiful, malty real ale. At its finest when on draught, the bottled version is still a mighty fine beer.
This beer appeals on all levels - rich, golden red in colour, fruity aroma and a sweet (but not too sweet) flavour that gently warns you of the strength of this bottled ale (5.2% abv).
Many of the supermarkets try and cash in at Christmas by bringing out so-called Christmas Ales from breweries that I've never heard of. Old Speckled Hen knocks the socks off most of these for flavour and I can heartily recommend this to anybody who appreciates a good pint.
In fact, writing this has put me right in the mood for a pint - I'm off, see you down there :o) |
