Review: I deliberated greatly over which dSLR to buy...in fact I deliberated whether to upgrade to a dSLR at all. Having decided to go for the Nikon D50 I have to say I am thus far not disappointed at all. It is a bit bigger than it looks in the images on both the Amazon and Nikon web sites and it is in fact a little bigger than the equivalent Pentax model the *ist DL. That said it fits very nicely into the hand and it's size and weight means it handles easily. I got mine with the 18-55 kit lense, not from Amazon as it happens but from Warehouse Express. Both retailers offer competitive pricing but Warehouse Express clinched the deal with a buy now pay in 9 months finance package (there goes any chance of this review being posted on Amazon!!!!) Very easy to use using a wide range of pre-set options/modes and of course being an SLR full manual control is available. It takes stunning pictures. After having it a day or two I realised the benefit of another lense and splashed out on the fully compatible Nikkor 55-200 telephoto. Downloading images is a cinch (Dell Dimension PC with XP home service pack 2). I did load the supplied Nikon software but promptly removed it due to it being a bit 'clunky'. There are just too many free image management packages out there to justify putting up with one supplied with the camera you just happen to have bought. I think my only gripe is that this camera did not come supplied with a SD card. Not uncommon these days for digicams to come with small capacity cards, not coming with one at all, particularly at this price range is just taking the micky..... |
