Review: The Nikon D50 camera has a bit of weight to it, but its not too heavy. It feels solid and well-built. It is also well-balanced; despite the fact that there is quite a large lens on the front, you can lay it on a flat surface without it tipping forward. The camera has a number of automatic modes which produce very nicely lit pictures straight out of the box. In addition to the usual "mountains" and "flowers" there are presets for portraits, kids portraits (kids have different skin tones to adults), fast action (i.e.sports) and also one for night shots. A feature I particularly like is the burst mode which can take 2.5 pictures a second and keeps going for at least 50 frames without slowing down. When you click the shutter it makes a noise like a proper film camera -complete with the motor that moves the film (which you can turn off). Although the camera performs well using the presets, it allows manual mode operation and full control over all manner of things such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO film speed as well as some others that don't fully understand yet. I bought this camera as something I can use in automatic mode whilst I learn how to use it manually. I am very happy with the camera and the results I have obtained so far. In the highest quality mode, A3 prints look spectacular. You will need to buy an SD card before you can use it. The battery charges from full empty in 2 hours and its good for at least 250 pictures (with and without flash). I am not hugely experienced with photography but I love this camera, it looks great and I've taken some great pictures with it. Its a bargain for the money. |
