Review Summary: Good unit but no direct time access
Overall Score: 3/5 Overall score - 3Overall score - 3
Review: I bought this Panasonic DMR E55EBS DVD recorder primarily to back up the Sky+ I use for day to day recording.
Mostly it's great, but there's a few missing features which Panasonic have missed a trick on (and when I told them they just went 'So what');
Negatives;
1: No direct time access/DVD-R Chapters. WHen you burn DVD-R you can't edit them, so you can't set chapters. Also, if you record from Sky+, for example, mainly I try to record 3 episodes at once using the copy function. However not being able to split the recording up means a solid 4 hour programme which you have to FFWD through.
2: Slow (very slow) boot time. My old Panasonic a-360 was a slow booter, but this is ridiculous.
3: No DVD-RW support. This would have been great, however, obviously they wouldn't want to kill the DVD-RAM format off before it's started.

Positives:
1: Progressive Scan - image quality on a projector or plasma is amazing. When you turn off and go back to normal TV it shows the difference!

For the price it's pretty good. However, in hindsight, I wished I'd plumped for the Sony unit.
