Review: Picked one of these Philips DVP 720SA DVD players up on sale from another vendor and just RMA'd it. Had the same sound disappearing issue described by another reviewer. Worse, because it happened far more frequently, the drawer kept refusing to close without a push. It was usually OK again after an hour or so, but that's not exactly acceptable. The Philips website mentions some (different) issues and blames static build-up - made me wonder if it's a weakness in the model? Even if my machine wasn't faulty, I still wouldn't be impressed. Playback of several 16:9 Xvid's (more commonly used online than DivX) was very jittery. Worse the player lacked what I'd consider a basic function of my aging Pioneer 350 - it doesn't remember your position if you switch it off or even leave it on standby. You have sit through all the pre-menu rubbish again, then find your position manually. Not impressed. |
