Review: When I received this Pioneer DV-350K multi-region DVD player I freaked out because it had region 2 on the box and the back of the DVD itself and the instructions state it only plays region 2 disks. It does play multi-region disks as billed on this site, but why isn't the modification official? This initial confusion definately caused customer distress! Wow, now I can send off for all those region 1 disks I've been reading about. Trouble is, NTSC is arguably an inferior system that America has seemed content with for twenty years and more, so it is questionable whether the multi-region feature is worth it. It doesn't cost you more, I suppose, but region 1 disks are pinkier in colour, people move slower and jerkier (PAL apparently runs faster), and the picture is not as sharp as region 2 disks, in my opinion at least. I don't think they're worth the money, but it's a useful feature as a last resort. An RCE coded disk played 'fine'. I've given the DV-350K three stars purely because it's my first DVD player so I've got nothing to compare it to (which isn't much help, I know.) All I can tell you is the picture quality looks okay (although the guy above has seen better.) It's not as quiet as I expected. You plug it in and off it goes. I haven't been able to do slo-mo yet on the remote, but the instructions say it does (like, er, it tells you it only plays region 2 disks.) Sound seems fine. |
